Hatchery Operations ManagerClosing Date:
CIAA has an opening for a Hatchery Operations Manager, located in Kenai, Alaska. This position oversees the hatchery programs for CIAA, which includes four salmon hatcheries, three of which are in operation currently: Trail Lakes Hatchery, Tutka Bay Lagoon Hatchery, and Port Graham Hatchery. The fourth hatchery, Eklutna Salmon Hatchery, is currently not in operation.
This is a regular, full-time, exempt position. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, this position is part of the management team and provides guidance to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors on hatchery operation issues. The Hatchery Operations Manager supervises the Hatchery Managers and other hatchery staff as assigned. This position works cooperatively with the management team to develop annual work plans, budgets and safety policies for the entire organization and assists on all aspects of CIAA hatchery activities including pathology, genetics, safety, permitting, personnel, facility maintenance, contract management, and public relations.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science or Arts degree in management, biology or related field with the desire and ability to learn and apply new skills outside of areas of specialty. Proven management experience is required, non-profit organizational exposure preferred. Project management experience with the ability to handle multiple projects concurrently is required. Must have a valid Alaska driver’s license (or the ability to get one soon after employment). Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word is required. The ability to write and communicate orally in a concise and effective manner is required. Other combinations of training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for relevancy. Salary range $74,196–$92,686 per year DOE. The benefit package includes health insurance (employee portion is a 5% co-pay), Health Savings Account with employer contribution, employee 401(k) retirement plan, vacation and medical leave.
