Fisheries Technician - Hatchery

Cook Inlet Aquaculture Association (CIAA) has an opening for a Fisheries Technician - Hatchery at Tutka Bay Lagoon Hatchery located remotely near Homer, Alaska. CIAA prioritizes the health and safety of its employees. Incoming employees coming from outside of Alaska are required to arrive with proof of a negative COVID-19 test and participate in a paid 7-day quarantine.


This is full-time, temporary, non-exempt position expected to be filled in April 2021 and to last until mid-October, 2021. Under the direction of the Hatchery Manager or Assistant Hatchery Manager, the Fisheries Technician - Hatchery position will assist with a variety of tasks that may include pink and sockeye salmon broodstock collection, egg take, and incubation as well hatchery and equipment maintenance. Work is often outside in various weather conditions or inside around cold running water. Employees live in communal dorm-style housing with shared kitchen and bathroom areas and must demonstrate the ability to live and work cooperatively and maintain cleanliness.


Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather and in harmony with fellow employees, operate fishery and water quality sampling gear, and have a working knowledge of basic construction techniques. The use of hand tools, outboard motors and small skiff operation, and outdoor skills are desirable. Familiarity with sampling and data recording techniques is also desirable. Sound physical fitness is necessary due to the physical nature of the work. Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 lbs. Must be willing to work long hours including possible weekend schedule. Current CPR and first aid certifications are required. $13.00 per hour, overtime eligible. Returning Fisheries Technicians (formerly Seasonal Assistants) may be eligible for a pay increase. There are no holiday, vacation, or medical leave benefits.  Housing and groceries are provided.
