The Cook Inlet Aquaculture Association believes internships provide opportunities for students to gain valuable work and field experience, while providing CIAA with an avenue to form relationships with potential employees. This cooperative effort will ultimately benefit the salmon resource of Cook Inlet.

The program is divided into two field sessions.  The first session will begin May 10, 2010 and continue through June 30, 2010.  During this session students will be monitoring the daily emigration of juvenile (smolt) sockeye and coho salmon from various lakes to Cook Inlet.  Daily activities include gathering length, weight, and scale samples from migrating smolts and recording weather and simple environmental conditions.

The second session will begin on July 6, 2010 and continue through September 10, 2010 (date is flexible).  Students in Session II will perform similar duties as Session I, however the fish being monitored and sampled are adult sockeye salmon returning from the ocean and migrating to freshwater lakes.

All project locations for each session are considered remote.  Students will be required to stay on site for the duration of the project. Several sites are only accessible by float plane.  Please keep in mind that supplies and equipment will only be sent on a scheduled basis.  However, all project sites will have communications via cell or satellite phone.
